The Grade 6 Class Learns with Leah Dorion

Yesterday we worked with Leah Dorion.

We learned new painting techniques such as: dots with the end of a paintbrush, letting the layers dry, changing the water on a regular basis to keep the colors clear, always have a paint rag, you can use the dull end of a pencil to make smaller dots, egg cartons work well for mixing the paint, and to always wear a paint shirt or garbage bag to keep your clothes clean.

To start off with, we traced leaves and chose a design that we thought was creative. We were able to all make our own leaves unique. We had a choice to make a base coat or to create a design. We had a lot of colors to choose from and they were proffessional acrylic paints. We were really excited to be using new paintbrushes too!

We are making this mural in the library so we can remember the giving tree, Metis people, and their culture. We think it is really cool to be a part of the process and to have the opportunity to meet Leah Dorion. It was a great time because we were able to combine our creativity and imagination into our art.

We feel honored to be part of this process and to have this mural in our library. We realize that not every school has this incredible opportunity.
